Company Description
Medicure develops drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. It has been developing lead drug candidate MC-1 as a possible treatment to prevent tissue damage in patients undergoing cardiac bypass surgery and other events where there's a blockage of blood to the heart (such as a heart attack) or the brain (such as a stroke). However, the drug failed in a pivotal trial in 2008, and the company put further development for several indications on hold. It is planning to continue work on MC-1 for some other chronic heart and neurological conditions, but is mainly focused on increasing sales of its one commercial product, Aggrastat, an injectable treatment for acute coronary syndrome.
