The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) was established in 1824 by the Medical Society of South Carolina as a private medical college. The medical school came under state ownership in 1913, and was designated a full university in 1969. The school has 1,300 faculty members and trains 2,600 medical professionals per year.
