Marathon Real Estate Mortgage Trust is trained on distressed investments. A real estate investment trust (REIT), Marathon invests in under-performing or non-performing residential mortgage loans (often sold at a discounted rate), as well as residential mortgage-backed securities that may or may not be backed by government agencies. The trust is also open to investing in commercial mortgage-backed mortgage securities, as well as commercial mortgage loans. Formed in 2009, Marathon is currently in the process of building its portfolio; it filed an initial public offering (IPO) shortly after its formation. The trust is externally managed by Marathon Asset Management, L.P.
