For M. A. Patout & Son, family tradition means processing sugarcane into raw sugar, blackstrap molasses, and cane syrup. Founded in 1825, the company is owned and operated by descendants of the founding Patout family. It operates the oldest working sugar mill in the US (the Enterprise Factory in Patoutville, Louisiana), and is one of the oldest family-owned sugar businesses in the nation. The company also owns two additional factories in southern Louisiana (in the towns of Franklin and Raceland) through subsidiaries
