Through its MHM Correctional Services subsidiary, the company contracts with jails and prisons across the US to provide mental health services to inmate populations. It operates in about 15 states (usually via statewide contracts) and provides psychiatric staff, as well as pharmacy and clinical management programs. Founded as Mental Health Management in 1981, the company started out providing mental health services to hospitals and community agencies. The firm began to focus on state correctional facilities in the late 1990s. MHM is led by CEO Michael Pinkert, who owned about 35% of the company before it went private in 2001.
