LyondellBasell North America is the continent's leading producer of polypropylene. It is the American division of global petrochemical giant LyondellBasell and also makes polyethylene and other advanced polyolefin materials. The company operates about 30 manufacturing plants, technical centers, and R&D facilities in the US and Mexico. It also operates a petroleum refinery in Houston and acts as the exclusive marketer of polypropylene resins manufactured at a plant owned by ConocoPhillips. LyondellBasell's North American unit emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2010 under a new parent holding company, Netherlands-based LyondellBasell Industries NV.
