Humorist Erma Bombeck claimed that All I Know About Animal Behavior I Learned in Loehmann's Dressing Room -- and if you've ever tussled over the last discounted Donna Karan blouse at one of this retailer's stores, you know what she was talking about. With some 40 Loehmann's stores in about a dozen states and the District of Columbia, Loehmann's stores sells designer and brand-name women's and men's apparel, accessories, intimate apparel, fragrances, shoes, and gifts at deep discounts. But caution to the shy: Loehmann's is famous for its communal dressing rooms. Founded in Brooklyn in 1921 by Frieda Loehmann, the company was acquired by Dubai-based Istithmar PJSC in 2006. It emerged from Chapter 11 in 2011.
