Don't try to butter up Leprino Foods -- it's into mozzarella with a capital "M." The company is a worldwide leader in mozzarella-making. It sells its soft cream-colored cheese to pizza purveyors large and small, including powerhouse pizza companies, including Domino's, Papa John's, and Pizza Hut, as well as to food manufacturers. In addition to mozzarella, the company makes string cheeses and reduced-fat cheddar and Monterey Jack. Besides cheese, Leprino operates a dairy powders segment through which it provides whey protein concentrate, lactose, and functional proteins for use in animal feeds, yogurt, baby formula, confectionery, and baked goods. Leprino sources its milk from the nation's largest dairy co-ops.
