Legal Services CorporationWashington, DC United States
Company Description
Legal Services Corporation (LSC) works to deliver Francis Bellamy's pledge, "with liberty and justice for all." A private, not-for-profit entity established by Congress and President Richard Nixon in 1974, LSC helps poor Americans gain equal access to the judicial system. It doesn't provide legal services directly, but instead grants funds to independent local programs thoughout the country. It makes grants to about 140 programs and is the nation's single-largest funder of civil legal aid for the poor. LSC-funded programs handle about 1 million cases each year. About 51 million US citizens (some 13 million children) are eligible to receive assistance from the organization.
