If casinos can bloom in the desert, why can't water flow? It can, thanks to the Las Vegas Valley Water District, which provides water to more than 1 million people in Southern Nevada. In addition to Sin City, the water district also serves residents of Blue Diamond, Coyote Springs, Jean, Kyle Canyon, Laughlin, and Searchlight. The agency is steward to Las Vegas Springs Preserve, natural springs that once watered the region (the springs went dry in 1962). The Las Vegas Valley Water District delivers water through some 35 reservoirs and tanks, with a total capacity of 800 million gallons, 32 pumpstations; 76 wells; 4,000 miles of pipeline; and six solar fa;ilities. Competition
Competitive Landscape for Las Vegas Valley Water District
Demand depends on commercial and residential water needs, which are partly related to population growth and partly to the level of economic activity. The profitability of individual companies depends on efficiency of operations, because prices are fixed by public utility commissions (PUCs). Large companies have economies of scale in operations and the ability to raise capital for infrastructure improvements. Small companies can compete successfully through superior engineering or by serving smaller local markets. The industry is capital-intensive: average annual revenue per employee at the large companies is $250,000. To read the full description, subscribe now.Top Las Vegas Valley Water District Competitors
