That's because QP makes Kewpie brand mayonnaise. It also makes other consumer foods, including salad dressings, jams, baby foods, convenience foods geared toward Japan's growing elderly population, and hydroponically grown fresh vegetables. Having become familiar with eggs while making mayonnaise, QP turned its expertise and by-products into egg-based ingredients such as eggshell calcium, egg yolk lecithin, and egg whites for food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic companies.
