Kerr Drug operates about 100 stores in the Carolinas in several formats, ranging from large upscale stores featuring health care services and expanded general merchandise sections to the basic pharmacy format offering more cleaning supplies, health and beauty aids, and soft goods. Founded by Banks Kerr in 1951, the chain was sold in 1995 to retailer J. C. Penney . A management group led by Kerr CEO Anthony Civello and CFO Richard Johnson took Kerr Drug private in 1996.
