How does this Kardan grow? Not with silver bells and cockle shells, but instead with investments in high-growth businesses. Kardan, which takes an active role in its portfolio companies, has holdings in real estate, financial services, and infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe and China. Subsidiary GTC Holding focuses on commercial real estate projects; KFS provides consumer finance, insurance, and pension fund management; and Talal Group International invests in water infrastructure projects. In 2011 the company spun off majority-owned Kardan Israel, an investor in the automotive, consumer goods, and technology sectors, in order to pay down debt and focus on its core activities.
