The Kansas City Chiefs Football Club was founded by oilman and sports impresario Lamar Hunt as the Dallas Texans in 1959, a charter member of the American Football League. (Hunt also helped start the AFL and served as its first president.) The franchise moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1963 and was renamed the Chiefs.
