Company Description

KGHM Polska Miedź is among the world's larger copper and silver miners. Operating primarily in Poland, it also maintains smelting and refining activities that turn its mined copper into cathodes, wire rod, and round copper billets.  KGHM also produces gold, lead, aggregates, salt, as well as being involved in waste management. It took a 51% interest in a joint venture in 2010 with Abacus Mining & Exploration to search for copper and gold in British Columbia. In 2012 it agreed to acquire Canada's Quadra FNX Mining for $2.9 billion. Formerly state-owned, KGHM began trading publicly in 1997. The Polish State Treasury still holds about 45% of KGHM.
