A real estate investment trust (REIT), JER Investors Trust manages a portfolio of real estate structured finance products, primarily commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), commercial mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, and other real estate investments. Founded in 2004, the company is managed by an affiliate of real estate investment management firm J.E. Robert Company (JER). It went public the following year. Due to the downturn in the mortgage industry and the credit industry overall, JER Investors Trust has turned its focus on managing its portfolio credit risk and maintaining liquidity. The REIT has sold some of its real property assets and CMBS investments.
