You might say this organization loves having international competition. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the governing body for the Olympic movement and the Olympic Games. It supports national Olympic committees (including the US Olympic Committee) in more than 200 countries that each organize national teams for competition while promoting the Olympic cause around the world. In addition, the IOC establishes rules for Olympic competition and selects host cities to hold its bi-annual international games. The organization generates revenue largely through broadcasting rights and corporate sponsorships. The IOC was formed in 1894 and held the first modern Olympic Games in Athens five years later.
