Intel (China) Ltd. Rankings
Company Description
The world's largest country (by population) is an important market for the world's largest chip maker (by sales). Intel employs some 6,000 people in China, engaged in R&D, semiconductor assembly and testing, and marketing and sales. While spending more than $2.5 billion building its first Asian wafer fabrication facility in Dalian, Intel announced inĀ 2009 that it would close its Shanghai assembly and testing facility, forcing 2,000 workers to move or lose their jobs. The company remains committed to China, however, pledging $110 million more for the Dalian wafer fab, which is expected to begin making chipsets in 2010 or 2011. China accounts for 17% of Intel's sales, trailing only Taiwan.
