Through its Pay Per Call advertising service, online advertisers included a toll free number set up by Ingenio in a listing at ingenio.com. Potential customers viewed the merchant's online advertisement listing via search engines, and if interested, called the number to connect with the merchant. Ingenio monitored how many times the number was called, charged the advertiser, and shared the profits with the search engine.
