Company Description
Home Retail Group (formerly Argos Retail Group) has UK homeowners covered from the inside, out. The company (commonly referred to as HRG) runs the 750-store Argos general merchandise chain, catalog and website, and the do-it-yourself (DIY) retail chain Homebase, with about 340 locations throughout the UK. Argos, founded in 1973, offers more than 16,000 general merchandise products and is a leading retailer of jewelry, small home appliances, sporting equipment, and toys. Homebase, which joined the group in 2002, is England's second-largest DIY chain (behind Kingfisher), offering about 38,000 products. GUS spun off HRG, which began trading independently on the London Stock Exchange, in 2006.
