Harbin Electric knows there's more than one way to turn electricity into kinetic energy. A motor manufacturer, the company makes a variety of linear motors, which convert electricity into linear motion. The motors are used in sorting machines, tools, printers, motor-driven gates, and other devices that have parts that move in a linear motion. Harbin also makes rotary motors, as well as automobile specialty mini-motors (i.e., motors for electric windows, seats, power steering, etc.). It sells its motors primarily in China and North America and, to a lesser degree, in Southeast Asia and Africa. Harbin Electric went private in 2011 after its $800 million merger with Shanghai-based Tech Full Electric.
