Handan, which distributes its products throughout China, produces about 8 million tons of steel and 4 million tons of iron annually. In 2008, the government of Hebei province combined Handan with state-controlled Tangshan Iron & Steel and other steel companies located in the province to form the country's largest steel enterprise, called Hebei Iron & Steel.
