Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) is an acute care teaching and research hospital that serves the residents of northern New Jersey and parts of New York. The hospital, which was founded in 1888 with 12 beds, now has nearly 800 beds and staffs more than 1,500 physicians and dentists, adding about 100 doctors each year. HUMC administers general medical and surgical care, as well as an array of specialty care. The medical center also provides treatment for children through its Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital and the Tomorrows Children's Institute (specializing in cancer and blood disorders).
