The company's main subsidiary and brand, Bertin SA, makes meat, leather, and dairy products, as well as personal hygiene, pet food, and house cleaning products. Other subsidiaries operate in cattle ranching, safety and protective apparel, construction, alternative energy, and even a resort in Brazil. Grupo Bertin owns more than 15 meat processing plants across South America, as well as one in Italy, and distributes its food products in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In 2009 Bertin SA announced it would merge its meat operations with rival JBS . Grupo Bertin was founded in 1977 by Henrique Bertin and is owned by the Bertin family.
