Auchan's mammoth markets make room for more than meals. France's second-largest food retailer (behind Carrefour), Auchan operates some 750 supermarkets and 560 hypermarkets in  a dozen countries. France represents about 45% of Auchan's sales, but it also has stores throughout Eastern and Western Europe and in China and Taiwan. (Auchan exited the US, Mexico, and Dubai in recent years.) Its hypermarkets (80% of sales) carry up to 100,000 products, including groceries, apparel, consumer electronics, and fast food. They also provide travel services. Auchan's other core businesses include banking (Banque Accord), and shopping mall development (Immochan) and e-commerce. The founding Mulliez family controls Auchan.
