Great Plains Exploration had been exploring for oil and gas in the Great Plains of Canada since its spinoff from Eurogas Corporation. Great Plains focused its drilling and exploration activities on properties in Alberta (including the Peace River Arch, Pembina, and Randell areas). The company had grown rapidly through acquisition with the additions of Energy Explorer and assets in the Altares area of northeastern British Columbia. Great Plains Exploration had proved plus probable reserves of 6.9 million barrels of oil equivalent. In 2010 the company was acquired by Avenir Diversified Income Trust.
