Most people's pantries don't contain food as tasty as this garage. Gourmet Garage operates five upscale grocery stores under the same name sprinkled throughout Manhattan. (The company shut down its Westchester County store less than two years after it opened its doors.) Its fifth store opened in upper Manhattan in February 2005. The stores cater to pampered New Yorkers with organic and prepared foods, sushi bars and other delectable's, and home delivery and catering services. Gourmet Garage began in 1981 as a wholesaler to fine restaurants and started selling to the public from its Soho warehouse in 1992.
