Company Description

Gaumont has the Gaul to be the world's oldest film company. Founded in 1895 by engineer and inventor Léon Gaumont, the French company produces and distributes about 10 films a year, such as Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep and La Rafle ("The Roundup"), director Roselyn Bosch's historical drama about the French police's collaboration with the Nazis. Together with rival Pathé, Gaumont owns and operates EuroPalaces, a leading chain of movie theaters in France (about 75 cinemas and 750 screens), the Netherlands (12 cinemas and some 100 screens), and Switzerland (10 cinemas and 70 screens).  Gaumont is 59%-owned by the family of chairman Nicolas Seydoux.
