Company Description
Garden Centre Group (GCG) likes to spread the joy of the world's flora and fauna. Formerly named Wyevale Garden Centres, it operates about 130 garden supply stores -- with more than 28,000 lines of trees, shrubs, and houseplants -- throughout England and Wales. Many outlets include pet and aquatics stores. Additional garden-related products include compost, chemicals, gardening books, picnic baskets, conservatory furniture, outdoor lighting, heaters, and pet supplies. Products are purchased from local nurseries and other third-party suppliers. The retail chain was founded in 1932 by Harry Williamson. GCG was taken private by Scottish investor and entrepreneur Tom Hunter in 2006 for about $551 million.
