Gap (UK Holdings) wants to bridge the gap between casual European and American fashion. A subsidiary of US retailer Gap Inc., Gap UK operates more than 180 retail stores throughout England and Wales. In France, the apparel company operates about 40 Gap brand shops. The retail clothing chain has been busy working to bring other brands owned by its American parent company to England. To this end, Gap UK began peddling the upscale Banana Republic brand there and now boasts an online presence for the brand as well. Sales in Europe account for about 5% of the US clothing retailer's revenues. Gap UK's American parent company, which is struggling at home, is looking abroad for growth.
