French Connection wants to connect with kids -- perhaps that's why it's edgy. The youth-oriented apparel company's ad campaign featured the acronym for French Connection UK (figure it out) but ditched it in 2005. Its lighthearted men's, women's, and children's fashions are complemented by accessories such as hats, backpacks, fragrances, and cosmetics. The company also owns design house Nicole Farhi and sells branded clothes in some 335 French Connection and Nicole Farhi stores worldwide, including about 25 shops in a dozen US states. Its goods are also sold in department stores. Other principal brands include Toast and Great Plains. French Connection was founded in 1972 by chairman and CEO Stephen Marks.
