Coal keeps FreightCar America in the black. The company designs and makes railroad cars, close to 70% of which are aluminum-bodied coal-carrying ones. FreightCar America claims the top spot as North America's manufacturer of both aluminum-bodied and coal-carrying railcars. Other products include coil steel cars, flatcars, intermodal cars, mill gondola cars, and motor vehicle carriers. FreightCar America also refurbishes and rebuilds railcars and supplies forged, cast, and fabricated parts for its railcars and ones made by other companies.
