Franklin & Marshall College, named after Benjamin Franklin and John Marshall, is a private liberal arts institution serving approximately 2,000 students. The school was created in 1853 through the merger of Franklin College (founded in 1787 with a contribution from Ben Franklin) and Marshall College (opened in 1836 and named after Chief Justice John Marshall).
