The not-for-profit system's oldest and largest hospital is St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, a 320-bed facility founded by the Sisters of St. Francis in 1891. Its other facilities include community hospitals St. Clare Hospital (in Lakewood) and St. Francis Hospital (in Federal Way), as well as a hospice program, and numerous primary and specialty care clinics.
