Consisting of the governor and his cabinet (the attorney general, the chief financial officer, and commissioner of agriculture), as well as their subordinate agencies, theĀ Florida Executive Branch of government is responsible for administering and enforcing the state's laws. The attorney general, chief financial officer, and the commissioner of agriculture are elected independently of the governor and exercise equal powers under the state constitution. Responsible for day-to-day operations and law enforcement, the governor also appoints various department heads and provides executive direction for both the cabinet and the Sunshine State. The State of Florida has an annual budget of about $60 billion.
