Company Description
Flagstone Reinsurance provides a clear path out of catastrophic events. The Bermuda-based global reinsurer writes property and property catastrophe reinsurance, as well as specialty and some short-tail casualty reinsurance. It also operates a Lloyd's syndicate managing agency and writes a bit of property insurance in the Caribbean through Island Heritage. Founded in the wake of the disastrous hurricane season of 2005, the firm mainly reinsures catastrophe policies on an excess of loss basis (that is, it covers losses over a certain amount). Flagstone diversifies its risk by geography and type of peril (hurricane, earthquake, etc.), so that a single catastrophe can't wipe it out.
