Finisar helps put the "work" in network with equipment that enables high-speed data communications over LANs or metro-area and storage-area networks (MANs/SANs). Finisar's optical components and subsystems include data links (transmitters, receivers, and transceivers) and link extenders. While the company's customers have included US information technology leaders such as Cisco Systems, EMC, and IBM, Finisar makes the bulk of its sales to customers outside the US. In 2008 the company merged with rival Optium in a stock-swap deal valued at approximately $243 million.
