The not-for-profit collects some 2 billion pounds of surplus food (donated by farmers, distributors, manufacturers, and retailers) and distributes it to over 200 member food banks in the US and Puerto Rico. The food and groceries aid some 25 million recipients every year; programs include Kids Cafe (meals, snacks, and activities in community centers and churches), Community Kitchens (culinary job training for low-income individuals), and BackPack Programs (backpacks of food for kids during school breaks).
