Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp got together and...helped farmers? That's correct. Farm Aid helps farmers throughout the US. The organization gives grants for food and emergency aid, hotlines, and legal assistance, as well as for education, outreach, and research. The group also promotes sustainable farming techniques, advocates for fair pricing, and provides credit counseling. Farm Aid's celebrity founders hope to raise American awareness that family farms (as opposed to corporate agriculture) are safer, more healthy, better for local economies, and more environmentally sound. The first FARM AID concert, and founding of Farm Aid, took place in 1985.
