This company is sweet. A leading producer of refined sugar in the US, Fanjul Corp. (formerly Flo-Sun) through its subsidiaries produces nearly seven million tons of the sweet stuff each year (sold under the brand names Domino, C&H, Florida Crystals, Redpath, Jack Frost, and Tate & Lyle). Its other holdings include more than 400,000 acres of land, hotels and resorts, an airport, and a renewable-energy power plant. Annual revenues from all of its businesses are estimated at $2.5 billion and include operations in some 20 US states, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Founded in 1987 by CEO Alfonso Fanjul, its origins go back through five generations of the Fanjul family, which began sugar farming in Cuba in the 1850s.
