(Its fashions are styled to have an international influence and modern appeal.) Express also sells denim and lingerie and operates an online store. Amid declining sales, Express has been closing stores and has converted about 500 of its locations to dual-gender outlets that carry both men's and women's fashions. Limited Brands , which launched Express in 1980, sold a majority stake in the ailing chain to the San Francisco-based private equity firm Golden Gate Capital (GGC) in 2007.
