Energy Transfer Partners distributes natural gas and propane across the US. The company operates about 14,600 miles of intrastate natural gas gathering and transmission pipelines, and 2,700 miles of interstate pipelines, and related storage assets. It sells more than 600 million gallons of propane a year to more than 1 million customers in 40 states. Energy Transfer Partners was formerly controlled by AGL Resources, Atmos Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas, and TECO Energy; the utilities sold their interests to Energy Transfer Equity in 2004.
