Being "board" is all in a day's work at Empresas CMPC. Through some 65 subsidiaries, the company produces and sells wood, pulp, paper, and tissue and paper products. CMPC manufactures lumber, woodchips, and pulp (nearly two million tons) from timberlands in Chile and Argentina -- more than a million and a half acres, largely planted with pine and eucalyptus. The company's subsidiaries produce consumer paper goods (tissue, napkins, and towels), printing and writing paper, newsprint, and consumer and industrial packaging (corrugated boxes and paper bags). CMPC sells timber and boxboard products globally, and its tissue lines throughout Latin America. The family of Chairman Eliodoro Matte owns about 56% of CMPC.
