Emerald Dairy's formula for success is turning milk into milk powder. The company produces milk powder (infant formula and enriched milk powders for children and adults), as well as rice and soybean powders. Its product line includes two brands: Xing An Ling, which is marketed to low-end customers, and Yi Bai, which is marketed to middle and high-end customers. Producing more than 9,000 tons of milk powder annually, the dairy distributes its products to more than 5,800 retail stores located in 20 of China's 30 provinces. Emerald Dairy gets its milk supply through contracting with local dairy farmers. Chairman and CEO Yong Shan Yang owns 47% of Emerald, John Winfield owns 10%, and Farallon Partners owns 9%.
