EMCORE is both compound and complex. The company's offerings include compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems -- chips made from complex materials, such as gallium arsenide (GaAs), as opposed to traditional silicon. Compound semiconductors support a range of high-tech devices, including photovoltaic solar cells, as well as optical components used in high-speed telecommunications networks. Solar power and fiber optics customers have included Alcatel-Lucent, Sycamore Networks, Tellabs, and the US government. The US accounts for 70% of EMCORE's sales.
