Company Description

Formerly part of the UK consumer unit of US financial services giant Citigroup (Citi), online bank Egg offered access to savings accounts through its website. The bank also offered ISAs and personal banking services through Citi, and auto, home, and travel insurance from various providers. Citi bought Egg from UK insurer Prudential plc for more than $1 billion in 2007. As it shed operations to become a leaner enterprise, Citi in 2011 sold Egg's credit card assets to Barclays and the bank's personal loan portfolio to Britannica Recoveries. Yorkshire Building Society bought Egg's savings and mortgage operations.
