Operating as the Levy Group of Companies or Levy Company, the firm processes slag, an impurity that forms on the surface of molten metal from blast and steel furnaces. The company processes more than 10 million tons of slag each year, which is made into aggregates for the construction industry. It has slag operations in about two-dozen steel mills, mostly in the Midwest but also in Australia and Thailand. The company also has asphalt, cement, and concrete products. Founded in 1918, the Levy Group is still controlled by the Levy family.
