Formerly owned by Paramount, it parted ways from that studio in 2008 and has formed a financing partnership with India's Reliance Entertainment . The company was founded in 1994 by Spielberg, animation guru Jeffrey Katzenberg, and recording industry maven David Geffen as an experiment in creating a diversified media firm. It struggled with any business beyond filmed entertainment, and later shed its other operations, including an arcade business and a music label.
