Company Description
Drax Group has bragging rights when it comes to operating the largest coal-fired power plant in Europe. The company's primary subsidiary, Drax Power, operates the Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire, England. The generation facility (which has six generators) has a capacity of 4,000 MW, nearly twice that of the next largest coal-fired power station in the UK; its output is sold to wholesale electricity customers. Drax (which meets 7% of the UK's power needs) buys about 10 million tons of coal from the UK and international sources and sells about 21 terawatt hours of electricity per year.
