He's not otherwise known as the Turkish Warren Buffett, but he may as well be. Aydin Dogan's one-time student side project has grown over the last five decades into one of the world's largest holding companies. Dogan Holding was founded in 1958 by its chairman as a transport company. It has since branched into media (Mr. Dogan runs the oldest newspaper in Turkey), energy, finance, manufacturing, and tourism. Its portfolio includes daily newspapers and magazines, cable television channels and radio stations, industrial manufacturers, and automobile sales firms. Adilbey Holding and the Dogan family together own more than two-thirds of the company.
